American Legion Post 68 hopes to fill Eddyville's city park with 200 flags this May.
The group worked with Frances Baccus to coordinate the first-ever flag raising in honor of local veterans. Organizers were able to fly more than 140 flags throughout the park.
Bob Chaplin, American Legion Post 68 commander, said the goal increased this year to 200 flags.
Flags will be flown from Memorial Day May 29 until July 4.
Just as last year, flags will be flown in honor of veterans past, present and active duty. Anyone can honor a loved one with a flag.
Chaplin said flag sales will be different this year. Post 68 volunteers will be setting up locations around the county where flags may be paid for. Locations and dates for flag sales are:
â ¢ April 1, 8 a.m. till noon in front of the Akridge Farm Supply and ACE Hardware store in Eddyville.
â ¢ April 3, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in front of the Let's Roll Beauty Salon.
â ¢ April 8, 8 a.m. till noon in front of the Akridge Farm Supply and ACE Hardware.
â ¢ April 15 at the American Legion Building during the veterans breakfast, 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
â ¢ April 28 at the American Legion Building during the fish fry from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
If you have any questions or are unable to attend one of the flag sign up locations, contact Chaplin at 270-969-8358.
Flags will be $25. If you honored a loved one last year and want to use that flag again, please bring your flag and the cost will be only $15.
