You can help the family of a local girl battling leukemia by getting a full stomach and visiting Santa Claus next week.
The family of Ariel Barton are holding a Spaghetti & Santa night at Embers Restaurant in Gilberstville on Dec. 15. The event will start at 5 p.m. inside Ken Bar Lodge on U.S. Hwy. 641, with spaghetti being served until 9 p.m. Santa will also be on hand from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.
Ariel — a local 4-year-old girl — is battling acute lymphomic leukemia and is currently undergoing chemo treatments twice a week at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. She is the daughter of Skylynn Fortner of Eddyville and Thomas Barton of Lexington. She is the granddaughter of Rebecca Fortner and Dean and Mabel Barton, and the great-granddaughter of JD and Nita Knoth.
Ken Bar Lodge and Embers Restaurant will donate 15 percentof every spaghetti dinner purchased to Ariel, to assist in buying medicine and to pay for travel back and forth to Vanderbilt.
Information on Ariel and her condition can be seen on Facebook at Prayers for a Mermaid and #teammermaid.
