Lyon County's baseball and softball teams had little trouble Monday defeating Fort Campbell in the opening round of the Class A Second Region Tournament.

Playing in Eddyville, the Lady Lyons idled to three runs in the opening inning with three Lady Lyons bunting to get on base, along with another three hit by Fort Campbell's pitcher and one walk. Sydney Melton started things off with the walk, followed by Sophie Bingham who used a bunt and an error to make it to second base. Rachel Coursey, in as a courtesy runner for Melton, advanced to third.

Bingham came in during the next at bat as Calista Collins laid down the second successful bunt, but after Fort Campbell tagged Coursey out. Lexie Smith got on base before the Lady Falcons fielded another out. Fort Campbell would make several mistakes through the remainder of the inning, starting with an infield error that allowed Collins to cross the plate. Kaelyn Conger was one of three consecutive Lady Lyons to get beaned, bringing in another run as Lyon County improved to 3-0.

Lyon County put together six more runs in the bottom of the second inning, which started off similar to the first as Melton walked to get on base. Coursey again came in as a courtesy runner, getting caught in a double play as the infield took advantage of a pop up by Bingham.

Having two outs didn't soften Lyon County's bats through the remainder of the inning.

Collins singled to get on base, coming in during Smith's next bat, a double down the middle. Lanie Oden kept things rolling with an RBI double of her own. Conger walked to get on base, while Allison Ellis used a two-run single to improve Lyon County's advantage to 7-0. Ellis didn't ave to wait long, crossing the plate on a line drive by Lily Jones. Jones made it to third off the single. Allye Culp singled for the last score of the inning before Fort Campbell closed things out, down 9-0.

Lyon County put up six more runs in the third inning, starting with a walk off home run by Collins to break double digits. An error, two hit batters and five walks later, Lyon County took the win 15-0.

Conger threw 43 pitches throughout the afternoon, striking out three batters, walking two and giving up no hits.

In boys action, the Lyons defeated the Falcons 17-1.

Max Wadlington started off the hits with a triple in the first. He came in on a single by Gabe Board. Jack Walker and Avery Ellis were walkers as pitcher Logan Lee opted not to give up another big hit so early. Board would score on the next at bat, but the Falcons did manage a double play to earn two outs. Before they could escape, though, Walker scored from third on a wild pitch.

Lyon ended the inning up 3-0 and never looked back.

They added one run in the second, four in the third, two in the fourth and seven in the fifth for a 17-1 decision.

Wadlington, Brady Darnell, Cody Holub and Christian O'Daniel had two RBIs each. On the mound, Travis Yancy took the win, striking out six Falcons across four innings and allowing just one hit.

With the wins, both teams advance to the next round of the tournament.
